ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-0 win over Mississippi College, Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex. Mindi Zamora scored the first goal of the game at the 21:25 mark when she bent it around keeper Mallory Pope after a great pass from Amy Kuykendall. Whitney Piendak scored in the 37th minute on a pass from Zamora. Morgan Loyd made the game 3-0 wijt a goal at the 49:05 mark. At 58:44 Piendak scored again and broke the American Southwest Conference goal scoring record with her 29th of the season. Stefanie Patterson scored the last goal of the game on a nice double pass play from Kelsey Jensen to Lindsay Cogburn. Christi Carr had five saves in the Cowgirls win. HSU had 21 shots, 14 of which were on goal. MC had 11 shots with five on goals. The Cowgirls improved to 16-0-3 on the season. Mississippi College fell to 14-6 on the year. HSU will play in the conference final at 1 p.m. Sunday looking for its fourth straight ASC title. --- HSU Athletics --- |
