ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team set a school and American Southwest Conference record with 20 goals in a 20-0 win over Howard Payne in league play Friday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.

The Cowgirls scored early and often in the game. The record was previously 19 in a game against Concordia-Austin.

Defender Kelly Watson started the scoring for the Cowgirls scoring off a corner in the fifth minute. Amy Kuykendall, Morgan Loyd (2), Mindi Zamora, Regan Cappella, Jordan Morley, Kelsen Jensen and Alison Baker all scored before the half.

HSU scored 11 times into the 25-30 mph north wind in the second half. Loyd added two more goals in the second half. Whitney Piendak, Kuykendall and Zamora all scored before the 63rd minute when the starters were done for the day after playing, barely a half of action.

Marissa Wichkoski, Stefanie Patterson, Morley, Jensen and normal sweeper turned forward Laura Newbrough scored to round out the scoring.

HSU improved to 14-0-3 on the year and 11-0-1 in ASC play. They are a win away from clinching the right to host the ASC Tournament. HSU closes the regular season with senior day for its five seniors at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Howard Payne fell to 1-15 and 1-11 in its inaugural campaign.
