Cowgirls Shut Out McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons continued what is becoming an annual defensive march towards the playoffs, with an 8-0 shutout over McMurry, Saturday afternoon at McMurry Stadium.

In the past four years the Cowgirls have had shutout streaks of six, five, seven and nine games in a row going into the American Southwest Conference tournament. The shutout was the fifth straight for the Cowgirls this season.

Whitney Piendak scored her 23rd goal of the season on a penalty kick at the 10:09 mark of the first half. Morgan Loyd added a Cowgirl goal at the 16:45 mark. It remained that way through halftime.

In the second half, HSU went to work scoring six goals. Mindi Zamora scored the first two at the 47:23 and 51:13 marks. Loyd added her second of the game in the 60th minute.

Cassie Sandifer added a goal in the 77th minute and Amy Kuykendall and Jordan Morley each scored late to give the Cowgirls the win.

HSU outshot McMurry 34-2 in the game. Christi Carr pitched the shutout in goal. The Cowgirls are now 13-0-3 on the year and 10-0-1 in league play.
