Sept. 30, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team scored goals in the 82nd and 85th minutes to bust open a 2-1 and held on for a 4-1 win over rival Austin College, Tuesday afternoon at Shelton Stadium. The Cowgirls went ahead in the first half when Mindi Zamora scored on a beautiful pass from Stefanie Patterson. Erika Lay then scored with 19 seconds remaining in the first half. Colleen Walsh scored on a 40-yard free kick to cut the Cowgirl lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute. After several minutes of back and forth action Elaine Pallarez scored in the 82nd minute of a rebound and Cathy Castagnos scored on an Erika Lay assist. Rachel Goold played the first half in goal and earned the win. April Johnson played the second half. HSU improved to 6-3 overall and Austin College fell to 3-7. HSU returns to action Saturday when it hosts cross-town rival McMurry at 5 p.m. |
