Cowgirls Fall To Austin College in Double Overtime



Cogburn Had the Cowgirls Only Goal

SHERMAN, Texas - Sophomore Jessi Davis scored on a header off a corner kick with just over three minutes to play in the second overtime, as the Austin College women's soccer team defeated the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls, 2-1, in a match played in Sherman, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. Davis scored the game winning goal off the corner kick taken by Mariah Davenport.

With the win, Austin College is now 4-4 overall, and Hardin-Simmons is now 4-2-1.

The win by the Kangaroos marks the first time that Austin College has defeated Hardin-Simmons in the seven year history of women's soccer at AC.

HSU opened the scoring in the game when senior Christin Cogburn scored off a feed from Jessica Stockton in the 21st minute.

AC evened the match in the 38th minute when junior Rachelle Mechenbier scored her first career goal off a pass from a free kick taken by Gena Vaughn.

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Yeager played well for AC making seven saves as the Cowgirls had 18 shots.

Sophomore keeper Rachel Goold made one save as Austin College took 13 shots.

Austin College returns to action on Friday afternoon, when they host UT Dallas. HSU is back in action on Friday, as they host Schreiner University.
