Cowgirls Score Early and Often to beat Mary Hardin-Baylor

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team beat Mary Hardin-Baylor 6-0 in their ASC opener this afternoon at Shelton Stadium. The Cowgirls completely dominated this one, outshooting the Crusaders 37-1. Senior Laura Freeman led HSU with two goals and an assist. Senior Erika Lay had a goal and two assists.

Kala Chalman got things started for HSU with an early game goal on an assist from Erika Lay. Laura Freeman added her first goal right before the half to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.

Hardin-Simmons poured it on in the second half, putting up four more goals. Lay scored on a Calli Wood assist in the 55th minute, and Stephanie Patterson added one shortly after in the 60th minute on an assist from Lay to put HSU up 4-0. Freshman Rachel Dunham added to the Cowgirl lead in the 82nd minute on a Freeman assist, and Freeman scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute to end the scoring.

Hardin-Simmons improves to 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play, while UMHB falls to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the ASC. HSU is in action again September 26 at Shreiner.
