ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' womens' soccer team slipped by UT-Dallas 1-0 in their American Southwest Conference opener late Saturday night at Shelton Stadium. Lightning delays 17 minutes into the first half halted play for nearly two hours before play finally resumed. HSU scored the games only goal in the 63rd minute as sophomore Cathy Castagnos snuck one past Comet goal keeper Katie Johnson. The Cowgirls dodged a bullet in the 89th minute as a possible game-tying kick from UT-D's Cassidy Acuff hit off the top crossbar. Rachel Goold had six saves en route to picking up the shutout win for Hardin-Simmons. The Cowgirls outshot the Comets 17-10. HSU improves to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in ASC play, while UT-D falls to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the ASC. The Cowgirls will be in action again September 20 when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor (0-3 overall) at 2 PM. --- HSU ATHLETICS --- |
