Sept. 1, 2006 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The top two teams in the South Region proved it once again as Hardin-Simmons and Trinity played to a 2-2 tie in the season opener for both teams at Incarnate Word's Field in San Antonio. The two teams played a pair of overtime games last season and both teams came into the game nationally ranked with Trinity at No. 7 and Hardin-Simmons at No. 18. Trinity got on the board first in the 26th minute when Kate Semmler scored on a Jennifer Wray pass. The Cowgirls tied the game in the 57th minute on a Marissa Wichkoski goal. In the 71st minute Claire Edwards gave Trinity a 2-1 lead, but the Cowgirls would not go away. Morgan Loyd tied the game in the 84th minute. Freshman keeper Christ Carr was stellar in goal for the Cowgirls, notching 10 saves. The Cowgirls will host Southwestern on Tuesday at the HSU Soccer Complex. --- HSU Athletics --- |
