RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team won its first tournament of the fall, defeating crosstown rival McMurry by six strokes in the UT-Dallas Lady Comet Invitational, Tuesday afternoon at Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson.

Ashley Luecke, a freshman from Snyder, breezed by the field in her first collegiate event. She shot matching rounds of 81 and won the individual title by 11 strokes over Alicia Yoder of UT-Dallas.

Whitney Mitchell shot rounds of 91 and 89 for the Cowgirls and her 180 total put her in seventh place.

HSU shot rounds of 360 and 359 for a 719 total. McMurry was second with a 725, UT-Tyler was third with a 730 and first round leader Mary Hardin-Baylor finished fourth with a 746. They shot a 388 in the final round.

Caitlin Raymond shot 96-91-187 and DeLane Griffith shot 92-98-190 to round out the scoring lineup for the Cowgirls. Bethany Hatsfield had rounds of 104 and 101 and was the Cowgirls' throw away score.

Heather Hambrick had a solid tournament playing separate from the team as an individual. She shot 92-85-177 and finished in a tie for fourth place overall. Sara Parker shot rounds of 105-98-203 also playing as an individual.
