Oct. 7, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team shot a blistering 305 in the final round of the HSU Fall Classic to finish in fourth place in the two-day event that was held at Diamondback Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. Monday's play was suspended by darkness and several teams finished their rounds this morning, before playing round two. The Cowgirls shot 328 in the first round. Mary Hardin-Baylor won the tournament with a 307-304--611. Sjavon Wilson and Christa Gunn of McLennan Junior College won the medalist honors with a 148, Wilson won a scorecard tie to take top honors. McLennan (310-303-613), Tyler Junior College (316-314-63), HSU, Texas Lutheran (353-331-684), Southwestern (338-346-684), McMurry (339-350-689) and LeTourneau rounded out the field (427-382-809). Freshman Kristi Martin led the Cowgirls with an 80-72-151 and was followed by fellow freshman Chandra Hayes 78-78-156. Salem Mitchell shot 83-79-162, Lauren Williams fired an 87-76-163 and Jessica Travis rounded out the top five for the Cowgirls with an 87-87-174. Andra Boxberger (84-82-166), Megan Bennett (95-88-183), Erin Frampton (92-95-187) and Kristin King (104-96-200) competed as individuals for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls 305 was their lowest score since shooting a 299 at the NCAA Tournament in 2000. |
