Cowgirls Fire best Round of 2004 NCAA Championships

GREEN LAKE, Wis. - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team shot a 354, its best round to date at the NCAA Division III Championships, Thursday at the Golf Courses of Lawsonia's Links Course in Green Lake, Wis.

Six-time defending-champion Methodist College took over first-place with a 314 for the day to move to 964 for the tournament. ASC foe Mary Hardin-Baylor shot the low round of the tournament with a 313 and they trail Methodist by seven strokes heading into the final round.

Chandra Hayes shot her low round of the tournament with an 83. She has a three round total of 266. Kristi Martin leads the Cowgirls with a 250 total and is tied for 25th overall, she shot 85 on Thursday. Megan Bennett shot 93, Salem Mitchell carded a 93 and Andra Boxberger had a 94.

Charlotte Williams (232) of Methodist is ahead of McMurry's Brittany Cary (233) by one shot in the medalist race. Cary shot a two-under 71 for the low round of the tournament on Thursday.

Hardin-Simmons coach David Sherman was named the District V Coach of the Year at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The 72-hole tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Friday.
