Kristi Martin Paces Cowgirls

GREEN LAKE, Wis. - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team shot an-opening round 356 and are 35 shots out of first-place after the first round of the Division III Women's Golf Championships in Green Lake, Wis.

The Cowgirls were led by freshman Kristi Martin with an 84. Freshman Chandra Hayes shot an 88 and freshman Megan Bennett shot a 92. Junior Salem Mitchell also had a 92 and Andra Boxberger fired a 93 for the Cowgirls' drop score.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh leads the tournament with a +29 over 321 on the par-73, 5,846-yard course. DePauw is six strokes back tied with six-time defending champion Methodist at 327.

Sarah Gates of DePauw leads the individual race after firing a 76. Only seven players in the field were able to break 80 on the demanding layout.

The 72-hole Championship continues on Wednesday with 18 holes. the Cowgirls will go off at 8 a.m. through 8:40 off the No. 10 hole.
