HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Florida - Hardin-Simmons women's golf team shot a second round 353 for a two-round total of 713 to hold their ground in eighth place in the four-day NCAA Division III Tournament which is played at the par-73 layout of El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Kristi Martin who opened up with an 85 yesterday shot two strokes better today coming in with a round of 83 for a two-day total of 168. Martin's 168 is good enough for a tie for 25th place. She was even going into the last five holes but a bad stretch of holes to finish left her at 10-over par for the day. Chandra Hayes had a solid day shooting a second round of 85 for a composite score of 177. Hayes shot a 92 yesterday and had better success today as she struggled in the first nine with a 50 but came together posting a 42 coming in. Andra Boxberger improved on the second day as well posting an 87 for the Cowgirls. Boxberger had a good last nine holes as she fired a 39. Her two-day total of 176 is good to place in her in a tie for 41st place. Megan Bennett had two nines of 49-49 to shoot 98. Bennett has a composite score of 192 for the tournament. Andrea Conley came in with a second round of 99 to give her a two-day total of 199. Methodist University continued to separate themselves from the field firing a 307 in the second round to have a two-day total of 615. Methodist leads the tournament by 37 strokes over De Pauw University who is at 652 after the second day. Gustavus Adolphus made the biggest move of the day shooting 322 to move into third place, only four strokes behind De Pauw at 656. Wartburg College dropped one spot to fourth place at 664 and Wisconsin Eau Clair is still in the fifth spot having a composite score of 680. Fellow ASC foe Mary Hardin-Baylor shot 345 on the second day to have a composite score of 694. UMHB is 14 strokes behind Eau Claire for fifth place. Southwestern is still in tenth place with a two-round total of 732. Methodist's Charlotte Williams who shot 77 yesterday had a second round of 76. Her 153 is leading her teemate Emily Ranney by one stroke. Ranney shot 78 to sit alone in second place. There is a two-way tie for third with Sarah Gates of De Pauw (77-78) and Colleen Walsh (76-79). Taylor Paskell (Illinois Wesleyan) and Andrea Shilts (Wartburg College) round out the top five with a total of 156. The third round will resume tomorrow with teams teeing off with progressive tee times starting at 9 a.m. --- HSU Athletics --- |
