Cowgirl Golf Finishes Third at ASC Tourney

TEMPLE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team finised in third place with a score of 782 (383+399) at the American Southwest Conference Tournament Tuesday at Wildflower Country Club in Temple. Cowgirls Hilary Gibson and Leslie P. Glazner tied at 11th place with a score of 185 while Crystal Cooksey finished at 16th place with a 213 (102+111).

Mary Hardin-Baylor's women's golf team made its home court advantage pay off as the Lady Crusaders ran away with first place with a first round score of 321 and a second round of 328 for a total of 649 to finish 67 shots ahead of second-place McMurry (351+365=716)

The UMHB women's have now won four straight ASC Tournament Championships and gave head coach Darla Kirby her fourth straight ASC Women's Golf Coach of the Year award.

UMHB's Carrie Franciskovic won the individual title with rounds of 78 and 80 for a 158 total. It is the first conference championship for Franciskovic and she had to edge out teammate Amanda Tuskey by one stroke to win. Tuskey fired a 78+81=159 to take secon place. McMurry's Brittany Cary shot 81+83=165 to finish third, UMHB's Emily Breedlove took fourth place with an 82+83=165 and UMHB's Lauren Clemens finished fifth with an 83+84=167. Those five players were named to the ASC All-Conference First-Team. The ASC All-Conference Second Team was made up of Theresa Ashorn of Texas Lutheran, UMHB's Julie Solomon, LeTourneau's Lisa Kok, McMurry's Amy Morgan and Randi Reed of McMurry. There were a total of 18 golfers representing five schools in this field.

The ASC Tournament Champion does not receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship. National Championship bids are awarded on a regional basis.
