TEMPLE, Texas - Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team jumped out to a 30-stroke lead after the first day of the American Southwest Conference Tournament at Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

The UMHB women fired a first-round total of 321 to sit 30 shots ahead of second-place McMurry University's 351 on the 5822 yard, par-72 course. Hardin-Simmons University is in third place with a 383 team score as the only other full team in the field. The teams had to battle intermittent rain showers during the morning before bright sunshine broke through early in the afternoon. The Lady Crusaders have won three straight ASC Championships and are hosting the Conference Tournament for the first time.

UMHB's Carrie Franciskovic and Amanda Tuskey share the individual lead after the first round with identical 78'a. McMurry's Brittany Cary carded an 81 for sole possession of third place, UMHB's Emily Breedlove posted an 82 for fourth place and McMurry's Randi Reed is tied for fifth with UMHB's Lauren Clemens after both players fired 83's.McMurry's Amy Morgan shot 85 for seventh place, UMHB's Julie Solomon holds down eighth place with an 86, LeTourneau's Lisa Kok is in ninth place with an 87 and Theresa Ashorn of Texas Lutheran is tied for tenth with Hilary Gibson of Hardin-Simmons with first-round 88's. There are a total of 18 golfers representing five schools in this year's field.

The teams will wrap up the tournament with a final round of 18 holes tomorrow morning at Wildflower. The final round will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM.
