FRANKSTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team is in second place after the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship that was played today at the Prairie Dunes Resort and Golf Club in Frankston, Texas.

The Cowgirls shot a 345 as a team and find themselves 11 shots behind six-team defending champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Crusaders shot a 336 to lead after one round on the 5,819-yard, par-72 layout.

Kristi Martin shot a 78 to lead the Cowgirls effort and she is in second place in the individual race. Andra Boxberger is in fourth place after shooting an 84 and Megan Bennett finds herself in contention for All-ASC honors in sixth place with an 87. The top 10 finishers are named to the all-ASC team. Jenna Felechner of UMHB leads the medalist race with a 75 in the first round.

Chandra Hayes shot a 96 for the Cowgirls and Andrea Conley fired a 100 to round out the Cowgirl lineup.

The teams will play 18 more holes on Tuesday. The Cowgirls will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
