UMHB Leads ASC; Cowgirls Lurking

Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Mary Hardin-Baylor fired a 317 to take the first round lead of the American Southwest Conference Women's Golf Championships at the Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Texas.

Hardin-Simmons sits six strokes back at 323 and Texas Lutheran and McMurry are tied with 339s in third place. Letourneau is in fifth place with a 377 and UT-Dallas is sixth at 451.

Brittany Cary of McMurry and Chandra Hayes of Hardin Simmons University fired 76's to take the meadlist lead.

Hayes led the Cowgirl contingent of four freshman that were the four counting scores for HSU. Kristi Martin shot an 80, Andra Boxberger fired an 81, Megan Bennett had an 86 and the Cowgirls threw away Salem Mitchell's 90. It was the best round of the year for HSU.

UMHB's four counting scores all finished in the top five.Carrie Franciskovic shot a 78, Emily Breedlove had a 79 and Meredith McArthur and Amanda Tuskey shot 80's. Holly Glover, UMHB's top player carded an 83.

The final round will begin Tuesday at 9 p.m.
