GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team opened up with a 329 and sits in first place after the first day at the Southwestern Invitational on Monday. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played at the par-72, 5,843-yard layout at Berry Creek in Georgetown.

The Cowgirls have a 27-shot lead over second-place Mary Hardin-Baylor, who had a composite score of 356. The host team Southwestern is at third place, only two shots behind UMHB with a 358. McMurry shot a 364 and is in fourth place, and Trinity University is in fifth having a score of 392.

Individually, there are four Cowgirls in the top five. Junior Kristi Martin fired a 77 with nines of 38-39 and is tied for first with Southwestern's Heather Goodwin. Sitting in the tie for fifth with a round of 84 is Andra Boxberger, Chandra Hayes, and Megan Bennett. Andrea Conley is tied for 14th place with a round of 92 to round out the team scores.

The tournament wraps up with 18 holes tomorrow. Teams will tee off with progressive tee times starting at 9 a.m.
