SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team won its first tournament of the season as the held on to defeat cross-town rival McMurry in the final round of the Lady Bulldog Spring Classic, Tuesday at the par-72 Starcke Park in Seguin.

The Cowgirls went into the day with a 14-stroke lead on McMurry, but the Indians closed the gap by 11 strokes with a 329, as the Cowgirls shot a 340.

HSU finished the tournament with a two-round 663. McMurry was second at 666 and Texas Lutheran was third with a 681.

Freshman Kristi Martin led the Cowgirls with a 79-82-161 good for third place, 15 strokes behind McMurry's Brittany Cary's 146 total. Chandra Hayes shot 81-83--164 for the Cowgirls.

HSU's Salem Mitchell fell from 78 on Monday to 93 on Tuesday, Andra Boxberger shot 85-87-172 and Jessica Travis shot an 89-88-177.
