SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team jumped out to an early 13-stroke lead after the first round of the Lady Bulldog Spring Classic at Starcke Park in Seguin on Monday.

The Cowgirls fired a 323 and lead Lon Morris Junior College by 13 shots. Conference rivals McMurry (337) and Texas Lutheran (349) are third and fourth.

Salem Mitchell led the Cowgirls with a 6-over 78. She is four shots off of Brittany Cary's pace in the individual race. Kristi Martin added a 79 for the Cowgirls, followed by Chandra Hayes with an 81 and Andra Boxberger with an 85. Jessica Travis' 89 was the Cowgirls throw away score and Megan Bennett shot a 93 as an individual.

The teams will finish the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.
