Cowgirls in Second at UMHB

TEMPLE. Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team fired a 347 and is in second place after one round of the Mary Hardin-Baylor Lady Crusader Spring Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-71, 5,814-yard layout at Sammons Park Golf Course in Temple.

HSU junior Kristi Martin fired an 81 to share for the individual lead. She is tied with Heather Goodwin of Southwestern. Ten players are within five strokes of the lead, including Chandra Hayes, who shot an 86 for the Cowgirls.

Andra Boxberger fired and 89 and Megan Bennett shot 91 to round out the Cowgirls scoring lineup. The round was played in heavy winds. Andrea Conley shot a 100 playing an individual and Lauren Williams shot a 102 and was the Cowgirls throw-away score on Monday.

Oklahoma Baptist leads the event with a 333. Mary Hardin-Baylor is in third place with a 348. HSU was the leader among the eight Division III schools in the tournament.
