David Sherman begins his seventh season as the head men's and women's golf coach at Hardin-Simmons University.

His teams have been highly successful with the women's team reaching the NCAA Tournament four times, including an eighth place finish in 2006 and a fourth-place finish in 2001.

Both the men and the women have been nationally ranked under Sherman's tutelage.

Under his watch, 28 players have been named All-ASC and three players were named All-American in Chris Phillips, Sherri Bowden and Allison Hall. He was named the district coach of the year for women in 2004. Kristi Martin and Ryan Salinas have each won conference medalist honors.

Sherman, who played collegiately at the University of Miami (Fla.) has been very successful as both a player and golf instructor.

He has been a PGA Professional for 31 years and has been a teaching professional for the last six years. Sherman has worked with beginners to touring professionals. He has also had high school students that he instructed go on to regional, state and national tournaments. He was nominated for Golf Magazine's top 100 instructors.

As a player he has won tournaments on the local and international levels and played in the 1984 U. S. Open at Winged Foot. He won the Acapulco International Pro-Am and was the medalist at the Northern Texas PGA's player ability test. Sherman has completed specialized courses in the USGA rules of golf, tournament operations, golf instruction, merchandising and personnel management as required by the PGA.

Sherman and his wife, Debbie, have two daughters - Meredith and Monica.
