GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team got a 3-pointer with .4 to play by Mollie Brawner to defeat Buena Vista 66-65 in non-conference action at the Southwestern Invitational in Georgetown. The Cowgirls were on the ropes, trailing 65-59 with 2:04 to play, but scored the last seven points for the win. Shelby Hodges, Kristen Harris and Brawner had the final points for the Cowgirls. HSU led at one point in the first half 29-14 after Haylee Allen, Mollie Brawner and Kenzie Tarpley came off the bench to hit back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers, but Buena Vista closed the half on a 22-7 run to close the gap to 39-36 at the break. They scored the first six points of the second half to make it a 28-7 run. The Cowgirls had a balanced attack with Brawner and Ashley Allen leading the way with 13 points. Cisneroz added 11 points and Lindsey Newcombe. BVU was led by standout Margo Muhlbauer with 21 points. The Beavers fell to 5-4. The Cowgirls (6-2) will return to action on Saturday when it plays Southwestern at 3 p.m. --- HSU --- |
