Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Henley Dominates As Cowgirls Roll
Dec. 4, 2003 TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team rode the back of freshman Melissa Henley to its 30th straight win over an American Southwest Conference opponent with a 77-60 win over UT Tyler, Thursday night in Tyler. Henley, a center from Baird, dominated the second half with 18 points and eight rebounds and finished the game with a team-high 23 points and 16 rebounds. Junior guard Diana Martinez continued her dominant play with 21 points (15 in the first half), six rebounds and six assists. Once again, the Cowgirls found a lid on the basket as they shot 34 percent in the first half and just 38 percent from the game, but their defense especially in the first half let them push out to a workable margin. The Cowgirls limited the Patriots to one basket in a 12:03 stretch in the first period, after UT Tyler had jumped out to an 11-5 lead. Sha Shead led the Patriots with 12 points. UTT fell to 0-5 on the season. The Cowgirls have won four straight to improve to 4-1. Hardin-Simmons is next in action Dec. 16 at McMurry. |
