ABILENE, Texas - Melissa Contrucci scored 20 points tp pace four Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls in double figures as HSU won its season opener 84-67 over Trinity, Saturday night at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls raced out to a 44-25 halftime lead and held off a surge by Trinity in the second half. Lyssa Dennard added 16 points, Jeni Hobbs had 14 points and seven rebounds in her Cowgirl debut and Laci Walker chipped in 10 points. Sarah Haul returned to the stating lineup and had seven assists for HSU.

Trinity had three players in double figures. Beth Hannon and Kate Dawson each had 11 points and Megan Scholbe had 10 points for the visitors.

Hardin-Simmons is 1-0 and will travel to Southwestern on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
