March 6, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team will take its 26-0 mark and No. 1 national ranking into the second round of the NCAA Tournament, when it will host Randolph-Macon College out of Ashland, Va. Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Complex. HSU has been to at least the Sweet 16 in each of the last four seasons.

HSU In the Second Round - The Cowgirls have never lost a game in the second round, going into Saturday's game they have won the four second round games by an average of 19.5 points per game. They snuck past Guilford College, 72-71 last year when Lauren Harris hit a jumper with four seconds to go. On the Air - HSU's postseason run will be broadcast on KAGT Gospel 90.5 and also on the internet at tsrnsports.com. John Wilson will handle the play-by-play duties and Chad Grubbs will handle the color. The pregame show will begin at 6:45. The game will also be aired live on KTAB-TV with David Bacon and Randy Turner. Fans can also keep up with in-game stats at www.hsuathletics.com. About RMC - The Yellowjackets come into the game with a 20-9 record and are champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. They overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat Meredith College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday. RMC lost its first five games of the season but have progressed under the leadership of head coach Carroll LaHaye and the play of freshmen Megan Silva and Michelle Orton. Silva, a point guard, leads the team with 16 points per game and she has also dished out 165 assists and has 115 steals. Orton, a 6-3 post, averages 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds and 6-2 sophomore center Emily Crider averages 10.9 points and 5.6 rebounds and has 72 blocked shots. |
