For the eighth straight season, the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls will play in the American Southwest Conference Tournament. HSU is the third seed out of the ASC West with a 20-4 record...The Cowgirls won the first six ASC Tournaments...The Cowgirls will play East Texas Baptist in the first round of the tournament for the second straight season...HSU defeated the Tigers 104-50 in the first round last season and won 83-63 in the team's first meeting this season...This will be the fourth meeting in the first round of the tournament between Hardin-Simmons and East Texas Baptist. The Cowgirls have won the previous three by one point (59-58 when a disputed ETBU 3-pointer was called a 2-pointer that would have tied the game at the buzzer) in 2000, by 13 in 2002 (61-48) and 104-50 last season in Abilene. The three games are the only three the Tigers have ever played in the tournament. HSU has won 20 games for the eighth straight season...In the 2004 tournament, the last time it was held in Clinton, the Cowgirls defeated Austin College and Howard Payne en route to the title...The Cowgirls do not have a senior on their roster...HSU has destroyed the previous single-season record for blocked shots...HSU has 115 blocks on the year, passing the 104 that was the previous record in 1994. |
