Feb. 3, 2007 ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team jumped out to a 26-3 lead and were never threatened in a 75-48 win over Sul Ross State, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Gallegos Center in Alpine. Sul Ross State did not make a field goal until Nitra Woods had a put back with 9:10 to play in the first half. However, went just as cold after leading 26-5 and SRSU went on a 18-5 run to close the half for a 31-23 halftime score. HSU came out strong in the second half with a different lineup and put the game away with a 14-2 run to start the second half. The Cowgirls had a balanced attack with Laci Walker leading the way with 19 points and Rachael Singletary had a season-best 14 points. Nitra Woods led the Lobos with 22 points and Danielle Furr added 20. They scored 42 of the Lobos 48 points. HSU improved to 16-4 on the year and 14-3 in the ASC West. Sul Ross State fell to 5-15 overall and 3-14 in league action. HSU plays at Schreiner University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. |
