GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its fourth straight game as it rolled past South region foe Southwestern, 77-63, Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the UTA Invitational in Georgetown. The Cowgirls were paced by an outstanding effort by junior guard Ashley Allen, who poured in a career-best 29 points and hauled in 11 rebounds. Freshman Lindsey Newcombe added her third double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds. HSU trailed by as many as eight early in the first half but responded with a 42-18 run over the last nine minutes of the the first half and first five minutes of the second half. Allen had 19 points in the run. The Cowgirls led by as many as 20 on a couple of occasions in the second half. HSU now 7-2 on the year, will return to action on Thursday when it hosts Ozarks. --- HSU --- |
