CLINTON, Miss. - Hardin-Simmons used a record setting night by freshman Lindsey Newcombe to rout Mississippi College 66-42 in American Southwest Conference action at the A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Miss., on Monday night. Newcombe tied Micky Davis' school and conference record by making 10-of-10 shots in the game as she scored a career-best 20 points to pace the Cowgirls. HSU shot 50 percent in the game and after trailing 11-10 early in the game went on a 13-0 run midway through the half and took a 23-11 lead. Mississippi College never was in the game after that point, but they did cut the deficit to 46-36, when the Cowgirls hit for a 17-0 run midway through the second half. Ashley Allen and Rachel Cisneroz each had 13 points in the game and Kristen Harris chipped in with 10 points. Mississippi College was led by Anesia McBride's 13 points. With the win the Cowgirls improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in ASC action. MC fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. HSU will take off the next 11 days before returning for a Dec. 28 game against Buena Vista in the Southwestern Tournament in Georgetown. |
