ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball used a balance offensive attack and solid defense in the second half to down UT-Permian Basin 93-70, Wednesday evening at the Mabee Complex. Lauren Harris led the Cowgirl effort with 18 points, Diana Martinez had 17 (all in the second half), Hannah Jones added 11 points and freshman Lindsay Thompson (12) and Melissa Henley (10) both reached double figures. The Cowgirls led just 40-38 at halftime but came out blazing behind Martinez in the second half to put the game away. The Cowgirls hit 12 3-pointers in the contest and outrebounded the Falcons 41-31. The win was HSU's second in two days and their sixth straight. UTPB was led by Jessica Hearn's 22 points, Teresa Jourdan added 20 and Kim Chaffin had 11 points and 10 assists. HSU improved to 6-1 with their sixth straight win. UTPB fell to 2-11 and snapped a two-game winning streak. The Cowgirls are off until a Dec. 31 tilt at UT-Dallas. |
