Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Cowgirls Continue Streak Over Indians
Dec. 16, 2003 ABILENE, Texas (McMurry) - Hardin-Simmons used a suffocating defense en route to an 80-60 win over cross-town rival McMurry, Tuesday evening in the American Southwest Conference West Division opener for both teams at Kimbrell Arena. The Cowgirls did not allow Sonya West, McMurry's talented forward who was averaging over 24 points per game going into the contest, a single shot in the first half and limited her to just five points in the game. That in effect took McMurry out of the game as she is the main cog of their team. HSU used a balanced effort on offense as five players were in double figures. Lauren Harris and Keila Remmele led the effort with 14 points each and it was Remmele that had the starting assignment on West and she played all 20 minutes in the first half, outscoring West 12-0 in the first stanza. Veronica Jones added 13 points and freshman Melissa Henley and McMurry transfer Melissa Forth each added 11 points. HSU improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in ASC West play and McMurry fell to 4-2, 0-1. HSU has now won 10 straight games over the Indians. The Cowgirls will host UT-Permian Basin, Wednesday at 6 p.m. |
