PINEVILLE, La. - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team used a strong second half effort to defeat Louisiana College 76-65 in American Southwest Conference action, Saturday afternoon in Pineville, La. HSU led 31-28 at halftime and LC led 46-45 with 11:17 before the Cowgirls hit their stride. Mollie Brawner got the Cowgirls rolling with an offensive explosion. She hit a jumper, then Allison Bray had a field goal, Brawner hit a free throw and back-to-back 3-pointers with the second one coming from about 27 feet away and it was followed by Haylee Allen layup to give the Cowgirls a 58-52 lead with 6:30 to play. HSU then pulled away down the stretch playing a lineup of freshmen Bray and Lindsey Newcombe, Cisneroz, Brawner and Haylee Allen. Cisneroz led a balanced Cowgirls with 16 points. Ashley Allen had 15, Brawner had 13 points all in the second half and freshman post Lindsey Newcombe had her second career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. LC was led by freshman Taylor Henderson, who had 15 points and 13 rebounds. HSU is now 4-2 overall and 3-1 in league play. LC fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in league play, HSU will play at Mississippi College on Monday at 5:30 p.m. |
