Dec. 7, 2002 ABILENE, Texas - For the first time this season the Hardin-Simmons women's basketball team trailed at the halftime break. They responded big time with a 40-16 second half en route to a 67-47 win over McMurry in the conference opener for both teams, Saturday at the Mabee Complex. HSU trailed 31-27 at the break, but went on a 10-0 run out of the lockerrom to take a lead they would not give up. Lauren Harris hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run. HSU had opened the game with a 9-0 run. In the first half McMurry's standout freshman Sonya West had 17 points, but she was limited to seven in the second half and the Cowgirls limited the Indians to just 16 points in the half. Harris led four Cowgirls in double figures with 16 points. Diana Martinez had 14 points, Kendra Anderson had 13 and Laura Ricci had 10. Anderson had 13 rebounds. West led the Indians (4-2, 0-1) with 24. HSU improved to 6-0 and 1-0 in ASC play. They will return to action Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. when they host UT-Dallas. The win was the Cowgirls eighth straight over their crosstown rival. |
