Cowgirls Dominate From The Start

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' 17th-ranked women's basketball team used a suffocating defense to run out to a 21-4 lead and never looked back in an 82-44 American Southwest Conference win over LeTourneau, Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls had a balanced attack as no one scored more than 12 points, but 15 players scored and all but three players scored more than two points. The Cowgirls dominated the boards 51-27 and held the Lady Jackets to 28 percent shooting in the game.

Sonya West led the Cowgirls with 12 points and six rebounds. Katrina Visina and Jaci Cotaya each had 11 points to pace LeTourneau.

The Cowgirls led the came by as many as 22 points in the first half as 13 Cowgirls saw the floor in the first frame.

HSU is now 5-0 on the year and 4-0 in ASC play. LeTourneau fell to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Cowgirls will take next week off for finals before a Dec. 12 game at crosstown rival McMurry. The game is for first place in the ASC as both teams are undefeated.
