Cowgirls Win Battle of Unbeatens

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' 17th-ranked women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 83-63 win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene.

The Cowgirls played their best start to finish game of the year against the much improved Tigers. HSU dominated the game in the paint, outscoring ETBU 48-26. The Cowgirls also owned a 47-38 advantage on the boards.

HSU was led by 22 points from junior Melissa Henley. She also added 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Lyssa Dennard added 14 points and Lindsay Thompson had 13 off the bench. HSU received 33 points from its bench on the night.

The Cowgirls had a 44-37 lead at the half, but a 11-1 run over a four minute stretch in the second half moved the lead to 61-42 with 11:38 remaining.

Sade' Stewart led the Tigers with 16 points. Mary Slaughter added 11 for ETBU.

HSU is now 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in ASC play. East Texas Baptist fell to 4-1 and 2-1 in league play. The Cowgirls host LeTourneau on Saturday at 1 p.m.
