ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball used a suffocating defense to move to 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action with an 88-48 win over Louisiana College Thursday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene. LC jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but the Cowgirls followed that up with a 14-0 run to take a 16-8 lead at the 11:23 mark of the first half and never looked back. In the run four different players scored for the Cowgirls, including 3-pointers by Shelby Hodges and Lyssa Dennard. After that the Cowgirls were never really challenged in the game. A Lindsay Steinberger stick back at the halftime buzzer gave the Cowgirls a 41-21 lead. HSU emptied its bench four minutes into the second half. Dennard led the Cowgirls with 15 points. Molly Brawner added a career-best 11 points and Steinberger added a season-high 10. Thirteen different Cowgirls scored for HSU. HSU is now 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in ASC action. Louisiana College moved to 0-5 on the year and 0-3 in league play. HSU will host Mississippi College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Mabee Complex. |
