Nov. 29, 2003
ABILENE, Texas - Junior guard Diana Martinez came a rebound shy of a triple-double to lead the Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team past the University of the Ozarks, Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex in Abilene. The Cowgirls jumped out with six 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the game and were never threatened. HSU ran out to a 50-26 lead at halftime. Ozarks made a run in the second half to cut it to 61-47, before the Cowgirls responded with a run of their own to put the game out of reach. Martinez had 19 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. The 12 assists tied her own school record set last season at UT-Permain Basin. Lauren Harris once again led the Cowgirls with 20 points. Balance was the name of the game for the Cowgirls as Veronica Jones added 11, Keila Remmele and Melissa Forth each had nine points and Erika Keese added eight. HSU (2-1) returns to action Monday when it hosts Austin College at 5:30. Ozarks fell to 1-1 with the loss. |
