Nov. 27, 2004 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' fourth-ranked women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with an 84-36 win over UT-Dallas in the American Southwest Conference opener for both teams, Saturday night at the Mabee Complex. The Cowgirls dominated from tip to buzzer forcing 37 turnovers and limiting the Comets to 22 percent for the game. HSU won the battle on the board 51-41. Melissa Henley led the Cowgirls with 18 points, all of which came in the first half. She chipped in eight rebounds and three blocks. Diana Martinez added 12 points and Rachel Cisneroz had 11 points in her first action as a Cowgirl. HSU played mainly the bench in the second half and outscored the Comets 44-19, after leading 40-17 at halftime. Hardin-Simmons will play host to UT-Tyler on Monday at 5:30. The Cowgirls improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in ASC play. UT-Dallas fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in ASC play. |
