Cowgirls Drop UTPB



Diana Martinez has HSU Record 12 Assists

Odessa, Texas - Hardin-Simmons sixth-ranked women's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 94-55 victory over UT-Permian Basin, Wednesday afternoon in Odessa.

Sophomore point guard Diana Martinez broke the school record for assists in a game with 12. She broke Michelle Schillings record of 11. She had her first career double-double as she added 14 points.

Senior All-American Kendra Anderson led six Cowgirls in double figures with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Laura Ricci had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Lauren Harris added 14 points, Sarah Allen had 13 and KraTaura Buckner had 10 points, four rebounds and six assists.

The Cowgirls jumped out to a 27-5 lead in the first half before the Lady Falcons scored 14 unanswered points to cut their deficit to eight points. HSU closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take a 40-22 halftime advantage.

UTPB never threatened in the second half to fall to 0-7 on the season. HSU improved to 3-0 and will return to action Saturday in Clarksville, Ark when they play the University of the Ozarks.
