Cowgirls Fall To Trinity

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team overcame an early 15-point and came back to briefly take the lead against Trinity, but were unable to hold on down the stretch in a 67-61 loss to Trinity, Saturday night in front of 2,308 fans at the Mabee Complex in Abilene.

The Cowgirls (27-1) took the lead at the 7:09 mark by a 49-48 score but Trinity scored two possessions later and never trailed again. They Tigers went up 61-56 at the 2:45 mark but five straight points by senior point guard Terri Robinson tied the game at 61-61.

Trinity's Jenna Smith then hit a baseline jumper with :43 seconds to go and the Cowgirls turned the ball over with :18 to go. The Tigers made four free throws down the stretch to finish the scoring.

Trinity opened the game with an 18-4 run.

All-American Kendra Anderson was brilliant for the Cowgirls with 33 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Claire Allan had 14 to lead Trinity. Megan Selmon and Melissa Carl added 11 and 10 points respectively in the balanced attack.

The win sends Trinity (25-5) to the sectional final against No. 4 Washington University at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
