BROWNWOOD, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 90-71 win over Mississippi College. The Cowgirls led 26-20 in the first half, but went on a 21-8 run to close the half and take a 47-28 halftime lead. HSU pushed the lead out early in the second half and the Cowgirl starters came out at the 17:21 mark of the second half to get plenty of rest for Saturday's game with Howard Payne. Rachael Singletary led the Cowgirls with 16 points. Laci Walker had 13 points and Melissa Contrucci with 10 points also hit double figures. HSU had 13 of its 14 players score in the game. Yalanda Gary led the Lady Choctaws with 17 points. The ASC's all-time leading scorer Lacey Kennedy had 12 points to close out her career. The Cowgirls shot 61.8 percent from the field, including 69.6 percent in the second half. HSU improved to 21-4 on the year and Mississippi College ended its season with a mark of 16-10. The Cowgirls play No. 3 and tournament host Howard Payne on Saturday at 4 p.m. |
