Feb. 21, 2004

Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball avenged its only other American Southwest Conference West Division loss with a 74-59 dismantling of Howard Payne, Saturday at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls got out to an early lead in the game and led by a 39-23 score at halftime, behind 16 points from Lauren Harris. In the second half, it was the interior game that did the damage as Melissa Henley dominated the interior to finish with 17 points. Harris finished her final regular-season home game with 21 points. Diana Martinez had 10 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Cowgirls.

Howard Payne's offense struggled all day against an inspired Cowgirl defense. HPU shot just 36.5 percent and had 27 turnovers. Lindsey Cantrell had 14 points and was the only Lady Jacket player in double figures.

HSU finished its regular season with a 23-2 mark and a 13-1 mark in ASC West play. Veronica Jones and Lauren Harris, never lost a conference game at home in their career. Howard Payne finished its regular-season 19-6 and had a 9-5 mark in ASC West action. Both teams will make the trip to Clinton for the ASC Tournament.
