Records Fall As Cowgirls Run Past Lobos

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons had a record-breaking night as it clinched the American Southwest Conference West Division Title and saw two single-season records fall as they routed Sul Ross State 95-59, Thursday evening in the Mabee Complex.

The game was never close as the Cowgirls jumped out to a 24-4 lead. Melissa Henley led the Cowgirls effort with 24 points, Diana Martinez added 15points, seven rebounds and seven assists, Lauren Harris had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Every Cowgirl played at least seven minutes and all but two scored. India Franco led the Lobos with 21 and April Ramirez chipped in 17.

Martinez broke Donna Roberts' school single-season record for assists. She has 132 now, breaking Roberts' mark of 131. Lauren Harris added the single season 3-point makes record to her list of game and career makes. She had three shots from behind the arc and broke Shanna Briggs' record of 71.

The Cowgirls improved to 22-2 overall and 12-1 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State fell to 14-9 overall and 7-6 in ASC West play.

HSU hosts arch-rival Howard Payne on Saturday, looking to revenge one of its two losses on the year.
