Cowgirls Fall to UMHB

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball went cold as Mary Hardin-Baylor heated up in the second half and HSU fell 86-74 to the Lady Crusaders on Thursday night at the beautiful Mayborn Campus Center on the UMHB campus.

UMHB shot 71.4 in the second half and hit 15-of-21 shots. The Crusaders also buried 20-of-27 free throws in the second half and 24-of-31 in the game.

The Cowgirls led 37-33 at halftime, but shot just 31.7 percent in the second half. Sonya West led HSU with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Lyssa Dennard had 18 points, including four 3-pointers.

The teams combined to make 11 3-pointers in the first half and 17 in the game.

The loss drops the Cowgirls to 19-4 on the year and 17-4 in conference play. Mary Hardin-Baylor improved to 9-15 overall and 9-12 in league play. The Lady Crusaders have made a dramatic improvement since their 0-10 start to the season. The win clinched a spot in the ASC Tournament for UMHB.
