Cowgirls Win Seventh Straight

AUSTIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its seventh straight game and clinched a berth in the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the sixth straight year as they defeated Concordia-Austin, 76-63 in Austin on Saturday afternoon.

The Cowgirls have two home games remaining in the ASC against Sul Ross State on Thursday and Howard Payne on Saturday. A win in either would give the Cowgirls the ASC West title for the sixth straight time.

HSU 35-29 at the break and a 13-2 run towards the middle of the second half vaulted the Cowgirls to a 13-point lead at the 6:38 mark. HSU was able to hit free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Veronica Jones led the Cowgirls with 18 points, Diana Martinez added 17 points, six, six assists, five rebounds and five steals and Melissa Henley had 11 points.

Ashley Edwards paced the Tornados with 32 points.

HSU moves to 21-2 on the year and 11-1 in ASC West play. Concordia fell to 13-10 and 5-7 in conference play.
