Cowgirls Roll To Easy Win Over UMHB

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons left little doubt who was the top team in the conference, as they routed second-place Mary Hardin-Baylor 97-76 in a pivotal American Southwest Conference West Division game, Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls forced 13 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game and ran out to a 19-7 lead and never looked back. The Cowgirls biggest lead came at 67-36.

Kendra Anderson led five Cowgirls in double figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Diana Martinez, Sarah Allen and Lauren Harris each added 12 points and KraTaura Buckner added 11. Martinez added eight assists.

For the game the Cowgirls shot 53.1 percent, including 58 percent in the second half. UMHB shot 48.2 percent.

UMHB's Jennifer Gilchriest and Lisa Martinez scored most of their points in the last 10 minutes of the game, but Gilchriest had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Martinez added 18.

The Cowgirls improved to 21-0, tying the school-record for consecutive wins set a year ago. They are 11-0 and clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament. UMHB fell to 16-6 and 8-3 in ASC.

HSU will host Concordia on Saturday at 1 p.m. in senior day.
