Feb. 4, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' second-ranked Cowgirl basketball team struggled shooting the ball in the first half but turned it on in the second half in a 76-48 rout of crosstown-rival McMurry, Tuessday evening in American Southwest Conference action at Kimbrell Arena. The Cowgirls led just 33-28 at the half, but senior Laura Ricci took over the game in the second half with 15 of her game high 19. Four Cowgirl starters hit double figures including Kendra Anderson's 17 point, 13 rebound night. Diana Martinez and KraTaura Buckner each had 10 points. Anderson also showed off her worth on the defensive end as she held Sonya West, the fifth-leading scorer in the nation, without a basket in the second half. West had just nine points on the night. The Cowgirls moved to 18-0 overall and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry fell to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in ASC play. The win was the Cowgirls ninth straight over the Indians. HSU will return to action Thursday at winless Schreiner. |
