Jan. 31, 2004 SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons used a solid defensive effort and timely shooting in a 70-51 American Southwest Conference West Division win over Texas Lutheran, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym in Seguin. The Cowgirls led by seven at halftime, but a 9-0 run out of the break, gave the Cowgirls a 16 point lead and the Bulldogs never got closer than 14 the rest of the way. Veronica Jones fueled the run with seven points and she finished with 17 points. Lauren Harris added 12 points and Melissa Henley chipped in 10. Texas Lutheran was led by Elisa Duron's 16 points, but she was 4-for-18 from the field and 1-11 from 3-point range. TLU was 3-for-24 from behind the arc and shot just 26.8 percent. HSU improved to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in ASC West play. TLU fell to 10-9 and 4-4. HSU returns to action Tuesday when it hosts cross-town rival McMurry at 5:30. |
