Cowgirls Remain Perfect With Win Over Howard Payne

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons's second-ranked women's basketball team ran away from Howard Payne in the second half to win 79-63 and take over sole possession of first place in the American Southwest Conference's West Division Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

Kendra Anderson led the Cowgirls effort with 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Cowgirls improved to 15-0 on the year and avenged their only regular-season loss from a year ago.

The Cowgirls led just 35-30 at halftime, but came out of the locker room and put on a 17-1 run to take a 52-31 lead at the 14:17 mark of the second half. Diana Martinez had nine points in the run.

The Yellowjackets tried to foul to keep the game close and the Cowgirls hit 16 out of 18 in the final five minutes.

HSU improved to 5-0 in ASC West Play. Howard Payne fell to 14-3 and 5-1. HSU returns to action Thursday when it host Schreiner University at 5:30 p.m.
